Dear Pridnestrovians, dear residents of Kamenka!
On behalf of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic and on my own behalf I congratulate you on the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the city of Kamenka from the German-Romanian invaders!
The liberation of Kamenka district from the German-Romanian invaders occurred during the unique Uman-Botoshan offensive operation carried out by the forces of the 2nd Ukrainian Front. According to the memoirs of the front commander Marshal Ivan Stepanovich Konev, there was no “operation broader in scope and operational complexity that would have been carried out in conditions of complete impassability and spring flooding of rivers” in the history of wars. Soviet soldiers, with incredible difficulty during the offensive pulled out cars that were stuck up to their bodies, guns that had sunk up to their carriages in the mud, and tanks that were roaring annoyingly and covered in black soil, and successfully beat the enemy, once again proving that the main strength of the people is human strength.
The partisan detachment “Soviet Moldavia” under the command of Yakov Afanasyevich Mukhin, who defended the city until the arrival of regular units of the Soviet Army, took an active part in the liberation of Kamenka district.
Units of the Red Army entered Kamenka, the villages of Rashkovo and Katerinovka on March 24, 1944. The district of Kamenka, which had been under occupation by German-Romanian invaders for almost three years, was liberated.
This date is a symbol of heroism and courage, pride and glory, unity and cohesion of our people in the name of victory and peace. The feat accomplished by our ancestors embodied loyalty to the Fatherland, courage, honor and justice – everything that helped our heroes survive and win.
Years will pass, generations will change, but the feat of the Soviet people will forever remain in our hearts and our memory.
Chairman of the Supreme Council
of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic
