Today is 80 years since the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. Nazi Germany attacked the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941. The war, which lasted 1418 days and nights, claimed the lives of millions of people. "Memory Candle" mass event is held every year in the cities and districts of Pridnestrovie. Residents of the republic come to the burial sites of soldiers to light the lamps and lay flowers at the graves and monuments of the defenders.
The PMR President honored the memory of the dead and deceased participants and victims of the Great Patriotic War on behalf of the people of Pridnestrovie. Vadim Krasnoselsky with his wife laid flowers at the Eternal Flame at the Tiraspol Memorial of Glory, at the tombstones with the names of defenders, monuments, according to the official website of the President. Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Galina Antyufeyeva and Deputy of the Supreme Council Grigory Dyachenko took part in the commemorative events.
Pridnestrovians participated in the Stalingrad, Kiev, Jassy-Kishinev operations, the battle for Berlin. 17 thousand inhabitants of the Pridnestrovian land began to defend the Fatherland. Almost 4 thousand of them did not return from the front. There are 11 Heroes of the Soviet Union among the natives of our region. Tiraspol was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree for its contribution to the Great Victory.
