The 45th Anniversary of the Entry of Soviet Troops into Afghanistan

Pridnestrovie remembers the day of the entry of Soviet troops into Afghanistan. the first units of the 40th Army crossed the Afghan border on December 25, 1979. About 15 thousand Soviet officers and soldiers died in the 10-year war.

More than 2 thousand Pridnestrovian citizens passed through Afghanistan, 54 of them did not return from the war. The memory of the fallen was honored at the capital's Glory Memorial. The Chairman of the Pridnestrovian Association of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan, Chairman of the Education Committee Igor Buga, together with his comrades, laid flowers at the monument to the soldiers of the Afghan war. The Supreme Council deputy arrived in Afghanistan at the age of 21 after serving in a military school and fulfilled his international duty for 2 years and 1 month.

Vladimir Akopov fulfilled his international duty, he served in an engineering battalion in 1983-1984. He says that their garrison was one of the calm ones, the airfield was under defense. Basically, the "hunt" was for those who carried fuel, ammunition and food. Vladimir Borisovich did not participate in direct combat clashes, he says that paratroopers and infantry suffered more, but he saw death.

Vladimir Borisovich worked in peacetime in the fire department. What he experienced in the Afghan war helped in his professional activities.

Women served in Afghanistan, mainly, nurses and cooks. Klavdiya Yakovlevna Talpa is an electrician by profession, she was in Afghanistan from February 1982 to November 1984, worked as an electrician at the airfield.

Parliamentarian Igor Buga emphasized that the state provides all possible support to Afghan veterans. The current benefits are prescribed in the law "On the social protection of war veterans".

The withdrawal of Soviet troops from the armed conflict zone began in May 1988. The last column left Afghanistan on February 15, 1989. This date is honored in Pridnestrovie.
