The 33rd anniversary of the tragic April events

01.04.2025

Armed aggression against Pridnestrovie began to mount after the events of March 1992, when Moldovan nationalists attacked Dubossary. On April 1, a Moldovan special police squad treacherously entered Bendery accompanied by two armored personnel carriers, which shot at a minibus with police officers, a bus with workers from a cotton mill returning from work, as well as guards and militiamen who came to help.

A chapel was erected at the site of the tragedy in 2002. A memorial rally is held near it every year. Flowers were laid at the memorial plaque by the President of the PMR Vadim Krasnoselsky, the Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov, the head of the Government Alexander Rozenberg, the deputy for the Bendery electoral district No. 6 Ruslan Gareyev, the First President of the PMR Igor Smirnov, representatives of ministries and departments, and public Figures together with the mothers and widows of the victims.

Lieutenant Colonel of the Republican Guard Viktor Taranov, militiamen of the experimental repair plant Senior Sergeant Sergei Bobuek and Sergeant Alexander Barbakary, senior sergeants of militia Igor Grek and Anatoly Petrov, and an employee of the cotton spinning factory Elena Sprynchan were killed on that tragic day 33 years ago. Militia captain Grigory Yechin later died after being seriously wounded. Another 14 people were wounded as a result of the shootout. Sergey Bobuek was personally known by Lyudmila Malchukova, who has headed the Union "Memory" in Bendery for many years.

The Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov addressed the Pridnestrovians on the memorial day. He noted in his address that April 1, 1992, became a day of grief, tears and losses for the residents of Bendery.

The First President of the PMR Igor Smirnov also addressed the audience at the memorial rally; he has headed the Advisory Assembly of the First Pridnestrovian Deputies under the Chairman of the Supreme Council since 2016. Igor Smirnov emphasized in his speech the role of the defenders of Pridnestrovie.

Memorial events in Bendery continued at the Borisovskoye Cemetery, where the defenders of Pridnestrovie who died in 1992 were buried.
