A series of strikes, referendums and congresses held on the territory of the PMSSR from 1989 to 1990 led to the proclamation of our republic. The course of historical events on the two banks of the Dniester, associated with the adoption by the Moldovan Parliament of discriminatory laws on languages and the desire of the inhabitants of the Pridnestrovian region to speak their native language, contributed to the emergence of the idea of creating an independent state.
Not only the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic was proclaimed, but the Provisional Supreme Council was also created on September 2, 1990, at the II Extraordinary Congress of Deputies of all levels. This body performed mixed functions of the legislative and executive branches of government. The deputies of the Provisional Supreme Council made the main decisions related to the life of the young republic. Elections to the permanent Supreme Soviet were held almost three months later.
After the elections, already on November 29, 1990, the first meeting of the session of the first convocation took place. The countdown of the work of the legislative body of the young state began from that day.
On the eve of the 30th anniversary of the formation of the Supreme Council, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Mikhail Burla addressed his colleagues in the course of the plenary session today. According to him, the legislative body stood at the foundations of the creation of Pridnestrovie.
