Flowers were brought to the memorial sign to the participants of the Women's Strike Committee today. The reason is significant – 30 years of Women's Strike Committee. The President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Alexander Korshunov, Commissioner for Human Rights in the Republic of Belarus Nikolai Yerkovich and participants of the strike committee took part in the solemn events at the stone slab. The memorial sign appeared at the Tiraspol railway station on September 1, 2011, in honor of the 20th anniversary of the Women's Strike Committee.
Its history began on September 1, 1991. Meeting of thousands of women from the PMSSR took place on this day, in Tiraspol, near the House of Soviets, at which it was decided to block the movement of trains to Kishinev. It was a protest against the detention by the Moldovan authorities of deputies of the Supreme Soviet of the PMSSR and the head of the republic, Igor Smirnov. The women gathered and took to the railroad, blocking traffic. This is how the "rail war" began. Pridnestrovian women blocked the railway, calling on the Moldovan authorities to release the first persons of the PMSSR during a month. The Prosecutor's Office of Moldova opened criminal cases against the activists of the movement, but the activists of the strike committee remained true to their convictions.
The participants in the solemn events exchanged congratulations, talked about the past and the present, and discussed plans for the future today, at the site of historical events. According to the website of the PMR President, Vadim Krasnoselsky expressed gratitude to the defenders for their feat. They agreed to hold a collective meeting.
