30.05.2017

The act of proclaiming independence of South Ossetia was adopted May 29, 1992 by the local parliament. The basis was the results of the nationwide referendum, in which over 99% of the voters supported the construction of a separate state from Georgia and the subsequent reunification with Russia. This decisive event for the republic was preceded by the disintegration of the USSR and armed aggression by the Georgian formations.

The Day of adoption of Independence Act is an official weekend and is one of the three most important public holidays in South Ossetia. The holiday events on this occasion were held today in Pridnestrovie. The authorities of our republic congratulated the official representative of the Republic of South Ossetia in PMR Vitaly Yankovsky, and in his person all citizens of the fraternal republic. The President Vadim Krasnoselsky noted that the main thing, both for our republic and for South Ossetia, is to preserve the peace and well-being of citizens.

Addressing Vitaly Yankovsky, Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Shcherba noted that citizens of the two republics unite a lot.
