05.07.2024

The Open Individual Championship in kayaking and canoeing is taking place at the Tiraspol rowing base. Students from sports schools in six cities of the republic are participating in the competition. The competition is being held for the 30th time this year. A solemn ceremony of handing over 20 kayaks purchased with funds from the republican budget to sports schools was timed to coincide with this event.

The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky noted that much attention is paid to mass sports in Pridnestrovie. The main goal is to attract young people to a healthy lifestyle as much as possible.

New single kayaks made in Portugal and Poland. 4 boats each were handed over to the Tiraspol and Bendery sportsmen, and 3 boats each to the Dubossary, Rybnitsa, Grigoriopol and Dnestrovsk sportsmen. The rowers will still need to get used to the new boats, so they will not be rowed at the current competitions.

The open individual championship in kayaking and canoeing takes place over three days. Children born in 2008-2013 are participating according to age groups. Today is a 500-meter distance, on Saturday a 1-kilometer distance, and a 5-kilometer distance on July 7.

Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov emphasized: all government bodies under the leadership of the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic pay special attention to the younger generation of the republic, their physical and spiritual development. In addition, the sport is developing among amateurs who want to improve their physical fitness and health. For example, the dragon boat rowing regatta “The President’s Family for a Healthy Lifestyle” is being held in Pridnestrovie for the third year in a row.

The best young sportsmen will be offered to study at the capital’s Olympic Reserve School based on the results of the competition, where they will be prepared for further competitions. The rest of the young people will continue to train at the rowing bases of their cities. A rowing base that existed since Soviet times was recently reconstructed in Rybnitsa.

The Head of the State Sports Service of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vyacheslav Sokolenko noted that since 2005, Pridnestrovian sportsmen began performing at international competitions, during which time about 400 medals were won at the World and European Championships. The last time equipment for rowing bases was purchased was in the 1980s. The bases have been updated with modern boats on the initiative of the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky in recent years.

The merits of the older generation of rowers were recognized today and awarded medals “Honorary Sports Veteran of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic”.
