"Young patriot of Pridnestrovie"

The final of the “Young Patriot of Pridnestrovie” military sports game has started. 15 of the best teams from all over the republic participate in it. The qualifying round took place in February-April. The young people are schoolchildren, Suvorov students, cadets and Youth Army members will compete in military sports competitions and in knowledge of history. The rally takes place over three days on the territory of the Dniester Dawns health complex every year.

The teams arrived at the Kitskany bridgehead before starting to compete. The children together with representatives of state authorities honored with a minute of silence the memory of those who died during the Great Patriotic War, while fulfilling their international duty in Afghanistan and during the period of Moldova’s armed aggression against Pridnestrovie in 1992.

The ceremony of laying flowers at the Eternal Flame of the Kitskany bridgehead was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council Galina Antyufeyeva and deputy for electoral district No. 21 “Slobodzeya” Pavel Shinkaryuk.

The Honor Guard Company of the Ministry of Defense of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic demonstrated then its performance to the participants of the opening of the rally.

Parliamentarian Pavel Shinkaryuk spoke about the importance of the annual military sports game “Young Patriot of Pridnestrovie”. Such events instill in children a love for the Motherland in his opinion.

The teams answer historical quiz questions during the rally, throw training grenades, shoot with pneumatic weapons, disassemble a Kalashnikov assault rifle, and participate in sports relay races and creative competitions.

It is planned to organize an exhibition of military equipment and military weapons at this year’s rally, and give the children a tour to the Kitskany monastery and the Bendery fortress.

The winners of the “Young Patriot of Pridnestrovie” military sports game will be awarded on May 19.

The game is dedicated this year to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the cities and villages of Pridnestrovie from the Nazi invaders and the 79th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The Kitskany bridgehead played an important role in the success of the Iasi-Chisinau operation. Troops of the 3rd Ukrainian Front delivered the main blow to the German-Romanian troops from the Kitskany bridgehead in August 1944. The Iasi-Kishinev operation marked the liberation of the entire territory of Pridnestrovie from three years of occupation.

In memory of the feat of Soviet soldiers, A 35-meter Obelisk of Glory memorial in the shape of a was opened at the highest point of the bridgehead on May 9, 1972.

Restoration work was carried out at the Kitskany bridgehead in 2022.
