"Bow your head. Here lie the heroic warriors who defended their hometown"

19.06.2025

The heads of the legislative and executive authorities of the republic and local authorities visited after the flower-laying ceremony at the Memorial of Memory and Sorrow a number of memorable places in the city - the stele "City of Military Glory", memorial signs to female defenders, fallen Cossacks ("military necropolis") and fallen residents, as well as a memorial sign erected at the site of the death of the column of guards.

The mourning events in Bendery continued at the Borisovskoye Cemetery, where the defenders of the city and the republic who gave their lives for the freedom of their native land rest on the Alley of Heroes. The funeral service for the deceased was held by Archbishop Sawa of Tiraspol and Dubossary. Fresh flowers from the top officials of the state were laid at the monument, the inscription on which reads: "Bow your head. Here lie the heroic warriors who defended their hometown. March-August 1992." A scattering of red carnations – a symbol of memory and gratitude for the immortal feat – on the gravestones of the fallen defenders of the republic.

The official part of the memorial events ended at the Chapel on Echina Street. Here they remembered the victims of Bendery. On April 1, 1992, a traffic militia patrol, a bus with civilians, guardsmen, and militiamen came under fire from Moldovan aggressors.

The events of the summer of 1992 forever changed the lives of not only the people of Bendery, but also all Pridnestrovians. The war was over. The tears of mothers, wives, and children remain. There remains sorrow and grief for hundreds of young lives of the best sons of the republic. There remain destroyed houses, schools, hospitals and factories. There remains memory. A sacred duty to do everything so that the war never happens again.
