"The Immortal Regiment" in Pridnestrovie

The central and largest event of the celebration of the Great Victory Day was "The Immortal Regiment" procession. The event was again held in the cities and districts of Pridnestrovie after a five-year break. 

The column began moving from Theater Square in Tiraspol. Grateful descendants of the victors carried portraits of their heroes who participated in the Great Patriotic War. Thousands of people came to march with photographs of their loved ones despite the heavy rain. The column, which extended over several blocks of Pokrovskaya Street, was headed by the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council Galina Antyufeeva, Chairman of the Government Alexander Rosenberg. Deputies of the Supreme Council, the command of the Operational group of Russian troops, officials, employees of the Parliamentary Office, residents and guests of Tiraspol walked alongside them. The Victory heroes were in the same line with them: fathers, mothers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers who went through the fronts and rear of the Great Patriotic War. Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council Galina Antyufeeva called Victory Day the brightest, most beautiful and beloved holiday for everyone. Her grandfather Semyon Moiseevich Shklyarov took part in the war of 1941-1945. The vice-speaker of the parliament emphasized that they remember and honor the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, study history, and do not destroy monuments in Pridnestrovie. Tiraspol residents came to the procession with their entire families, with children and grandchildren.

Deputy of the Supreme Council Vadim Levitsky proudly carried portraits of his grandfathers in the Immortal Regiment procession with his son. Andrei Terentievich Glukhov and Ivan Fedorovich Levitsky took part in the Great Patriotic War.

The Bayev family took part in the procession. Parliamentarian Oleg Bayev carried portraits of his heroes together with his wife.

The Immortal Regiment event was held in Pridnestrovie was in 2019 the last time, then the tradition of a mass procession was disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic, and then by the danger of a terrorist threat. The mass event was held online these 5 years. The 80th anniversary of the Great Victory was held en masse. Pridnestrovians sang war songs, rejoicing on the 9th of May while marching in the Immortal Regiment procession.

The mass event was attended by activists of the youth patriotic movement "The Victory Heirs", they carried portraits of close relatives, war veterans, participants in military operations, who are no longer alive today.

Rodion Romanov told the parliamentary press service that his great-grandfather Grigory Dmitrievich Saranov fought in the Great Patriotic War, he went through the entire war, he fought in 1944 against the Japanese aggressors, for which he was awarded well-deserved medals.

A pupil of the Suvorov college Kirill took part in the procession for the first time.

"My great-great-grandfather went through the entire Finnish War and died in February 1945 in Poland, he was killed. He fought courageously and with honor. I feel sorry for those people who fought for our Motherland, but they did it so that we could live under a peaceful sky. They deserved glory, eternal glory, we are proud of them", said the pupil of the Suvorov college. 

The procession of the column ended at the Glory Memorial. Grateful descendants laid flowers in memory of the feat of the Soviet people over the fascist plague.
