“Take care of your eyesight”: lecture for pupils of the capital’s school No.3

The day for pupils of two 6th grades of school No. 3 began not with lessons today, but with an unusual class hour. Sixth-year students of the Faculty of Medicine of Pridnestrovian State University gave a lecture to schoolchildren as part of the month of the white cane at the constituency No.28. The children were told about visual hygiene in a clear and engaging manner and given useful tips. Myopia is a big problem among schoolchildren.

The lecture with the support of the leadership of the medical faculty and school No. 3 was organized by Ilona Tyuryaeva, Deputy of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic for constituency Number 28.

Visually impaired people - people with low vision and blindness - have been living compactly for many years in this constituency, in the center of Tiraspol. Special audible traffic lights and tactile paving slabs are installed at intersections - this is a special paving surface for their convenience in the micro-district. It was important therefore to tell children about how to preserve their eyesight from a young age, and that there are people living nearby who do not see the world as clearly and brightly.

20 minutes of the lecture flew by quickly and informatively: a visual presentation about how the eye works, how we see, what is bad and dangerous for vision, how long you can read or look at the monitor, how many times a day you need to do eye exercises. There was a short quiz after that. The sixth graders showed how they had mastered all the information.

Headmaster Alexander Baranov noted that the network of optometrists, whose main office is also located in constituency No. 28 by the way, made its contribution to preserving the eye health of schoolchildren - it donated 120 certificates for free vision diagnostics for lecture participants and vitamins to maintain vision.

The children after finishing all the lessons went on an excursion to the Rassvet enterprise of the blind society and to the Athletic sports and rehabilitation center.
