The Parliamentary Committee on Security, Defense and Peacekeeping insists on "the Cubans" status of international soldiers and war veterans.
In November 2010, it was created by Pridnestrovian Association for Friendship with Cuba. Members of the public organization listed more than 130 members of the military-strategic operation "Anadyri", which took place in the period from 1 July 1962 to 30 November 1963, in the territory of the Republic of Cuba. In fact, more ex-servicemen live in Pridnestrovie, the epicenter of events during the Cuban missile crisis. The secrecy under which the operation took place, to prevent a nuclear war, did these people "invisible".
Deputy Yuri Chorin was puzzled by restoration of social and historical justice. He introduced a legislative initiative to the Supreme Council, which is intended to include members of the military-strategic operation "Anadyri" in the text of the law "On social protection of war veterans". Taking into account limited finance, benefits for this category of citizens is not intended by the author. Status is important for them. Despite this, the government has prepared a negative opinion on the law-in-draft, arguing that giving the status is not subject to this law. Nevertheless, the members of the relevant committee set up to finish the job. They insist on the necessity for licenses for this category of citizens and intend to draw the attention of the authorities to the participants of the events that took place in Czechoslovakia in 1968, which formally as the Cuban missile crisis, are not considered combat operations.
The initiative to amend the law "On social protection of war veterans" recommended to be adopted in the first reading. Its discussion in the plenary session will involve members of the NGO "Pridnestrovian Association for Friendship with Cuba."
For reference. A similar initiative, but with the provision of benefits to Russian, "Cubans", is under consideration by the State Duma.
