Tuberculosis incidence remains high in Pridnestrovie

19.04.2023

The incidence of tuberculosis in Pridnestrovie continues to be epidemic. 253 people were registered for the first time (54.58 per 100 thousand of the population) in 2022 even despite the decrease in the number of patients. Minister of Health Kristina Albul told the deputies of the Committee on Social Policy and Healthcare when she presented a report on the results of the implementation of the state program for the prevention of tuberculosis over the past year.

2 million rubles were allocated from the republican budget for the implementation of the state program for the prevention of tuberculosis in 2022, which is 59% of the planned amount. The money went to diagnose and provide patients with medicines. Less budgetary funds were needed thanks to the receipt of assistance from the Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. There are fewer patients in inpatient treatment, Kristina Albul said. 93 people were treated in 2022, and the program was designed to treat 200 patients per year. The incidence of tuberculosis has decreased and among children under 14 years of age, sick adolescents, on the contrary, have become more.

The deputies of the Committee and the head of the Ministry of Healthcare during the discussion of statistical data raised the issue of the need for compulsory treatment of patients with tuberculosis.

The Minister of Healthcare told the parliamentarians that a suitable place had already been found as part of the optimization of the healthcare system. Kristina Albul informed the President about these plans during the Collegium of the Ministry of Healthcare of the PMR held on April 11.

The report on the implementation in 2022 of the state target program for the prevention of tuberculosis will be submitted for consideration by the Supreme Council at the plenary session.
