Cases of rubella and measles have not been registered in Pridnestrovie since 2007, and there have been no cases of diphtheria for about 10 years. Minister of Healthcare Kristina Albul announced this at a meeting of the Committee on Social Policy and Health, presenting a report on the implementation of the state target program for immunization of the population.

The republic is currently vaccinating against 11 infectious diseases: tuberculosis, viral hepatitis B, poliomyelitis, whooping cough, diphtheria, tetanus, hemophilic infection, pneumococcal infection, measles, rubella, mumps. As a result there were no cases of severe TB in children in 2022. Pridnestrovie thanks to vaccination maintains the status of a polio-free region, and the incidence of vaccine-preventable infections remains at low levels.

The state program for immunization of the population in 2022 was funded in the amount of 5 million 685 thousand 970 rubles (99.2% of the planned amount), according to the report. The main part of the funds was spent to purchase the necessary vaccines and equipment, ensure transportation and proper storage, and laboratory diagnostics. The World Health Organization has provided great assistance in immunization against polio and COVID-19 by providing vaccines and the necessary equipment for storage and transportation.

At the same time, vaccination coverage rates against a number of infections do not reach 95%, the level recommended by the World Health Organization to maintain epidemiological well-being in recent years. The reasons are different – from the refusal of parents to the setting by pediatricians of long-term medical challenges.

The report on the implementation for 2022 of the state program for immunization of the population of Pridnestrovie will be submitted by the Committee on Social Policy and Health for consideration by the deputies at one of the next plenary meetings of the Pridnestrovian Supreme Council.
