Employees who have less than 2 years left until retirement will be able to receive a preferential right to remain at work if the number or staff of employees is reduced. We are talking about retirement by age, including pensions on preferential terms and in connection with special working conditions. Deputies of the relevant parliamentary Committee considered the corresponding law-in-draft on introducing an amendment to the Labor Code of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic in the course of the meeting in the first reading.

The current labor legislation defines the following list of socially vulnerable categories of citizens who have an advantage in remaining at work during staff reductions:

– employees with two or more dependents;

– workers in whose family there are no other workers with independent earnings;

– employees who received a work injury or occupational disease during work;

– participants in combat operations in the PMR;

– employees who improve their skills at the direction of the employer without interruption from work;

– workers who suffered as a result of the disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant or who took part in its liquidation;

– disabled people.

Deputies of the Parliamentary Committee on Legislation, Protection of Rights and Freedoms of Citizens Galina Antyufeyeva, Gregory Dyachenko and Oleg Petrik proposed expanding the list of categories to include people of pre-retirement age. It is necessary according to the authors to supplement the Labor Code because able-bodied workers of pre-retirement age in practice have little chance of subsequent employment if they lose their jobs.

Deputies of the relevant parliamentary committee unanimously supported the initiative of their colleagues. The law-in-draft to amend the Labor Code of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic will be considered in the first reading in the course of one of the upcoming plenary meetings.
