Anticipating the first reading

Working meeting was conducted by the Committee on State Regional Policy dedicated to amendments to the law “On burial and funeral business”.

As noted by the deputy chairman of the relevant committee Anton Onufienko, the current law was adopted in 1999. Some of provisions are outdated, in need of improvement.

Earlier, the profile parliamentary committee received information from the prosecutor's office with indications of contradictions that exist in the sphere of distribution of powers. The law-in-draft is designed to distinguish between the duties of state administrations and local councils in burial and funeral business. According to the legislators, it is necessary to observe the principle of unity, completeness and consistency of the system of legal acts.

Representatives of local authorities were invited to discuss the legislative initiative in order to find out the opinion of law enforcers on this issue. The law-in-draft will be considered in the near future in the first reading mode.
