Deputies of the Committee on Legislation discussed the possibility of considering criminal cases remotely, in the format of a video conference. Such law-in-draft was sent to the Parliament by the PMR Supreme Court. According to the official representative, such an initiative will help to more efficiently consider criminal cases. The videoconference format will be used in exceptional cases. It was noted in the course of the meeting of the relevant committee that the "online" mode can reduce the risk of contracting coronavirus infection in people in custody.
Deputies of the profile committee focused on ensuring the protection of the rights of defendants and holding remote court sessions, subject to the consent of all participants in the trial.
Deputies of the Committee discussed the necessity to prescribe in the proposed rule of law that a video conference can be held for the health of the defendant or because of the impossibility of delivering the defendant, including due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation in the republic. In general, the law-in-draft was recommended for adoption in the first reading. Work on the document will continue in preparation for the second reading.
