The law on advocacy may be updated in the legal field of the republic. The Supreme Council received law-in-draft “On advocacy and the legal profession in the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic”. Today the document was discussed by deputies of the Committee on Legislation. The author of the initiative, the PMR Prosecutor Anatoly Guretsky, presenting the law-in-draft, noted that today the activities of lawyers are regulated by the law dated 1993 that is outdated and does not reflect the realities of today.
The law-in-draft proposes to increase the number of lawyers' formations, which will help create competition in the legal services market, the explanatory note to the document says. The adoption of the new law, according to the author, will improve the quality of legal services by increasing the responsibility of lawyers for their activities. Most of the proposed norms are borrowed from Russian legislation, taking into account the specifics of our republic.
It is necessary in the opinion of the deputies of the Legislation Committee to create a working group, which will include, among other things, representatives of the legal community for a detailed study of the directions of the law-in-draft. All proposals in the form of amendments will be considered when the law-in-draft is adopted in the second reading. So far, the deputies of the relevant committee have decided to recommend the adoption of the law-in-draft proposed by the PMR Prosecutor in the first reading.
