On increasing salaries for teachers and doctors

20.02.2024

The Committee on Economic Policy, Budget and Finance considered the amendments to the budget law for 2024 submitted by the Government of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. They provide for an increase in planned limits on wages for teachers and employees of healthcare institutions.

The PMR President spoke about the need for this in his Address to public and administrative authorities.

Deputies of the Committee on Economic Policy, Budget and Finance asked questions. Most of them concerned how the salary increase in the healthcare system would be technically implemented. Medical institutions of the republic will take a different path unlike workers in the education and social protection system, where the level of wages will increase due to an increase in the minimum wage.

According to the explanations of official representatives of the Government, following the successful example of the Republican Clinical Hospital, they are switching to a pilot salary project from April 1, 2024. With the exception of dental clinics and sanitary-epidemiological stations. As Healthcare Minister Christina Albul noted, this will affect 7946 staff positions. About 126 million rubles will be needed in 2024 for these purposes.

Amendments and additions to the PMR Law “On the Republican Budget for 2024” will be submitted to deputies for consideration at a plenary session in the first non-final reading this Wednesday, February 21. The law-in-draft provides for an increase in funding under the Capital Investment Fund program for certain facilities by 35.8 million rubles, including funds necessary to pay off accounts payable for 2023. For example, for the repair and construction of the city stadium in Dnestrovsk, as well as for the restoration of Wittgenstein Park in Kamenka and the overhaul of several kindergartens in the villages of the Kamenka region.
