Benefits for public transport for children, schoolchildren and students will be enshrined in the law

Deputies of the Committee on Social Policy Sergei Cheban, Vladimir Pelin and Ilona Tyuryaeva proposed to include in the law “On the Republican Budget for 2024” benefits for travel on public transport for children, schoolchildren and students. Such benefits are enshrined today by the Decree of the Government of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic dated February 27, 2015 No. 44 “On the establishment of preferential tariffs in public transport for certain categories of citizens”.

The PMR Law “On the Republican Budget for 2024” will set a standard according to which the following will be able to use public transport for free throughout the year:

– children under 7 years of age on city, suburban and intercity routes without the provision of a separate seat;

– children under 5 years old on an intercity route without a separate seat. If two or more children are traveling with a passenger, one of them is transported free of charge, and the rest pay 50 percent of the ticket price;

– students of the Republican Cadet Corps named after His Serene Highness Prince G.A. Potemkin-Tavrichesky Ministry of Internal Affairs of the PMR and the Tiraspol Suvorov Military School.

The law will prescribe a discount on public transport fares for the academic year for schoolchildren, university students, technical schools and colleges, as well as cadets and students of the Tiraspol Law Institute named after M.I. Kutuzov of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. The discount on travel on urban and suburban routes is 50 percent, on intercity routes – 25 percent.

A discount of 50 percent for travel on an international route for children from 5 to 10 years old (with the right to occupy a separate seat) will also be enshrined at the legislative level. Moreover, if a passenger is accompanied by two or more children under the age of 10 years, one of them is transported free of charge, and the rest pay 50 percent of the ticket price.

The law-in-draft on introducing amendments and additions to the PMR Law “On the Republican Budget for 2024” will be included in the agenda of one of the next plenary meetings.
