Deputies of the Committee on Legislation prepared draft laws establishing criteria for the parole of convicts for consideration in the second reading. Clarifying amendments will be discussed in the course of the next plenary meeting of the Supreme Council. The legislations were adopted in the first reading on March 20. The relevant laws stipulate that in order to apply parole, the convicted person must meet the criteria for correction and compensate fully or partially for the damage caused by the crime in the amount determined by the court decision. Special mention is made of convicted pregnant women and young mothers. The grounds are prescribed that the court must take into account when considering a convicted person’s request for parole.
Deputies took into consideration in the course of the Committee meeting the information of the Supreme Court of the PMR and the Prosecutor's Office of the PMR about the work done last year. The report of the Supreme Court presents statistics on the number of criminal and civil cases, complaints, the workload of judges and other aspects of activity. The Prosecutor's Office reported on the consideration and resolution of appeals received in 2023, on violations identified as part of supervision, etc. Information was provided on the participation of the Supreme Court and the Prosecutor's Office in work to improve legislation. Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Chairman of the Committee on Legislation Galina Antyufeyeva noted that the Committee works closely with the Supreme Court and the Prosecutor's Office, representatives of the judicial and control authorities take part in meetings of working groups and express opinions on the legislations under consideration. The submitted reports will be considered by deputies of the Supreme Council in the course of one of the plenary sessions.
Deputies of the committee prepared a number of other relevant legislations for consideration in the first or second readings.
