Issues related to road safety were discussed in the course of the meeting of the Committee on Agro-Industrial Complex, Industry, Transport, Construction and Natural Resources.
Amendments to the law “On Road Safety” are being prepared for adoption in the second final reading. The legislative initiative of the President is aimed at preventing road accidents involving vehicles equipped with devices for producing special light and sound signals. It provides for additional training for drivers of ambulances, cash collection cars and vehicle of militia. The decision to make changes is related to statistical data: drivers of special vehicles do not always have sufficient driving skills in emergency situations. People suffer as a result of this. 19 road accidents involving special vehicles occurred in 2020 in the republic, in 16 of which the drivers of special vehicles were at fault. 4 people received injuries of varying severity. There were in 2021 already 30 such accidents, 11 people received injuries of varying severity. Drivers of special vehicles were found to be at fault in 20 cases. Last year, 10 accidents involving special vehicles were recorded. 1 person died and 5 received injuries of varying severity.
The relevant Committee agrees with the President’s proposal. However, it proposes as part of the second reading to stipulate that additional training for drivers of budgetary organizations will be carried out at the expense of budgetary funds, so that employees do not have to pay for these courses themselves. The date of entry into force of the new norm may be adjusted due to objective reasons.
