The payment mechanism changes for using elevators in residential buildings

15.09.2023

Changes to the Housing Code became one of the topics discussed at the first meeting of the parliamentary Committee on Regional Policy, Local Self-Government and Housing and Communal Services in the autumn session.

The fee for maintenance of elevators is calculated according to the number of registered elevators at the place of residence. There are many apartments in which no one is registered in the cities of the republic. Some are rented out, and more than one or even two people can live in them. They use the elevator and don't pay for it.

The City Council of Bendery took the initiative to revise the legislation regulating the charging of fees for elevator maintenance. Parliamentarians supported their colleagues. The Supreme Council adopted the law-in-draft in the first reading, but since February, deputies of the relevant Committee, together with public utilities and representatives of residents of apartment buildings, have been looking for a fair and compromise formula for a new payment mechanism for elevator maintenance in cases where no one is registered in the apartment.

This initiative will be considered in the second reading at one of the plenary sessions of parliament. Committee deputies expect that the law-in-draft will be adopted and that in the near future additional income will begin to flow into the accounts of elevator companies.
