Deputies of the Committee on Legislation, Protection of Rights and Freedoms of Citizens proposed to simplify the acquisition of Pridnestrovian citizenship for children under 18 years of age. The fact is that now, according to the norms of the Constitutional Law “On the PMR Citizenship” if a child does not live in the territory of Pridnestrovie, then to acquire citizenship of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, a parent can apply to the passport department only with the consent of the other parent. Deputies of the Supreme Council Galina Antyufeyeva, Gregory Dyachenko and Oleg Petrik proposed to exclude this norm from the Constitutional Law. The law-in-draft was prepared based on requests from citizens.

The authors propose to stipulate that a parent who is not currently a citizen of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, but who wants to acquire citizenship together with the child, can also apply for citizenship of a child.

The relevant parliamentary committee decided to recommend the adoption of changes to the Constitutional Law “On the PMR Citizenship” in two readings at once in the course of the next plenary meeting.
