The topic of the meeting of the Parliamentary Commission on Foreign Policy and International Relations was the adoption in the final reading of amendments to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Moldova by the Moldovan Parliament. After the adopted law-in-draft is promulgated by the president, new concepts will appear in the legislation of the Republic of Moldova – separatism, anti-constitutional subject, illegal information structure, conspiracy against Moldova and others. There is no clear understanding to date of how the measures taken will work in practice. However, Pridnestrovian experts note that they give grounds to prosecute almost every citizen of Pridnestrovie.
The so-called "law on separatism" is discussed in the Supreme Council not for the first time. The issue had been already raised in the course of the meeting of the Commission on Foreign Policy and International Relations after the Moldovan Parliament supported the law-in-draft in the first reading in December. Deputy Speaker of the Parliament and Chairman of the Commission Galina Antyufeeva reminded the deputies and guests of this.
Members of the parliamentary commission expressed concern that the destructive actions of the Moldovan side could be directed against the people of Pridnestrovie and would inevitably lead to undermining the Moldo-Pridnestrovian negotiation process and to an increase in tension in the entire region as a result.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic took part in the meeting of the parliamentary commission. Vitaly Ignatiev told the deputies about the position of the Foreign Ministry on the issue of Moldova's destructive actions against Pridnestrovie.
The PMR Minister of Foreign Affairs told the parliamentarians about the trends in the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian negotiation process – the lack of desire to conduct a constructive dialogue and the emerging commitment to communications from a position of strength.
The Head of the Commission for Foreign Policy and International Relations Galina Antyufeeva emphasized that the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic would not stand aside. The Parliament together with the President and the Government will protect the rights and freedoms of the citizens of Pridnestrovie.
The Commission on Foreign Policy and International Relations as a result adopted a draft official statement of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. The deputies will consider it in the course of the plenary session tomorrow.
