Meeting of the Commission on Foreign Policy and International Relations was held in the briefing hall of the PMR Supreme Council. The main issue on the agenda is the profile law-in-draft on amendments and additions to the Criminal Code that is currently being considered in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. Adopted on December 21 in the first reading the law-in-draft proposes to enshrine in the Criminal Code of the Republic of Moldova new concepts – "anti-constitutional subject", "illegal information structure" and others. The law-in-draft provides for the establishment of criminal liability for separatism and the creation of anti-constitutional bodies. According to experts, this law-in-draft is directed against Pridnestrovie first of all.
The Head of the Parliamentary Commission Galina Antyufeeva said at the beginning of the meeting that there are many complaints from citizens now who are concerned about the latest news from the neighboring Republic of Moldova. People are worried about how the measures discussed in the Moldovan parliament will affect the lives of Pridnestrovians.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic informed the deputies about the general state of affairs in the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian negotiation process. Vitaly Ignatiev once again emphasized that the negotiation mechanism is not fully operational. Many humanitarian problems remain unresolved.
Vitaly Ignatiev said that this is not the first time Chisinau has made an attempt to tighten the Criminal Code. A similar law-in-draft was submitted to the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova for consideration and was supported in the first reading in 2014. It was not finally adopted however.
Galina Antyufeeva informed that the Commission on Foreign Policy and International Relations decided to address the Moldovan colleagues with a corresponding statement. The Head of the Commission emphasized that all the problems that exist today in the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian relations should be resolved through diplomacy.
