The year 2025 is marked by two anniversaries in Pridnestrovie: the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the 35th anniversary of the formation of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. It is planned to apply an amnesty in the republic for these dates – some categories of convicts may be released from criminal liability or their punishment may be mitigated. Such a humane act is used by many states in exceptional cases. Amnesty was adopted in Pridnestrovie in 2020, 2015 and earlier in honor of significant dates for the republic.
The draft Resolution "On amnesty in connection with the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and the thirty-fifth anniversary of the formation of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic" was initiated by Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council, Chairman of the Committee on Legislation, Protection of Citizens' Rights and Freedoms Galina Antyufeeva. Presenting the draft in the course of the meeting of the Committee, the vice-speaker emphasized that the 2025 amnesty was developed on the instructions of the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky. The Committee will formalize all comments from subjects of the right of legislative initiative, including the Supreme Court and the Prosecutor's Office, in the form of amendments to the consideration of the draft amnesty in the second reading. The document will soon be submitted for discussion to the Supreme Council in the first reading for now. Deputies of the relevant committee will recommend its adoption. The second Resolution of the Supreme Council on the procedure for applying the amnesty has also been prepared for consideration.
