Education issues are under control

20.09.2022

An expanded meeting on the education system of Pridnestrovie was held today at the site of the Presidential Administration, on the initiative of Vadim Krasnoselsky. Speaker Alexander Korshunov, as well as deputies of the profile committee Igor Buga and Andrey Safonov took part in it. Heads of state administrations, representatives of the Ministry of Education, as well as directors of educational institutions were invited to the discussion.

The PMR Minister of Education Svetlana Ivanishina announced significant figures and outlined in her report the main problems of preschool and general education. The minister noted that there are 155 kindergartens now, which are attended by more than 20000 children. The number of pupils has decreased by 2 thousand people over the past 10 years. There are problems with staffing both in urban preschool institutions and in rural ones. As for the schools of the republic, there are three times more urban schoolchildren than in the countryside now. Public spending per child is twice the amount spent on schooling in the city in rural schools.

It was noted at the meeting that there are very few young specialists in schools and kindergartens of the republic now. There is only one young teacher for every ten teachers of retirement age. Some schools exceeded the standard for class occupancy due to a shortage of staff. There is a shortage of not only teachers, but also technical workers in educational institutions due to low salaries. There are 13 vacancies for school and kindergarten cooks in the capital.

The quality of education is a separate issue. The final certification does not reflect the real level of knowledge of students, the minister considers. Every fourth applicant did not confirm their school grades during the admission campaign of PSU this year. The Ministry of Education considers it necessary to preserve the Unified State Examination, and the distance learning format is proposed to be considered as an exceptional measure in special circumstances. There was also a proposal that if one case of coronavirus is detected, the entire class should not be quarantined. The final decision on this issue will be made after the conclusion of the chief sanitary doctor.

The President instructed the Ministry of Education to determine the financial need for the technical equipment of biology, chemistry and physics classrooms.

They focused during the meeting on the implementation of the Electronic Journal project. The introduction of the Electronic Journal system began in 2020. Almost 2000 monoblocks were purchased for educational institutions. The need for modern computers and fiber optic communications is much greater. The President instructed to prepare a report-request indicating the need for computers for each school of the republic.

A separate issue is the problems of the system of secondary vocational education. The Pridnestrovian labor market is experiencing a shortage of workers. At the same time, about 1300 specialists graduate every year in the republic. A serious problem is the outdated material and technical base.

Additional thematic meetings on the identified issues will be held in the near future.
