The PMR Supreme Council Deputies of the Committee on Social Policy and Healthcare initiated law-in-draft to extend the simplified procedure for importing medicines into Pridnestrovie for another year. Amendments to the law “On pharmaceutical activities in the PMR” were adopted by Parliament in two readings at once.
The law “On Pharmaceutical Activities in the PMR”, adopted by the Supreme Council, has been in force in the republic since 2019. It is prohibited to import into the republic medicines that are not registered in one of the states of the European Union or the Commonwealth of Independent States, or in Ukraine according to the rules for the import of medicines prescribed in it.
According to the adopted changes to the law pharmaceutical companies will be able to import medicines into Pridnestrovie that are not registered in at least one EU or CIS country until the end of 2024. All medicines must still be certified and registered with the Center for Control over the Circulation of Medical and Pharmaceutical Products of Pridnestrovie at the same time. This support measure was in effect during the coronavirus pandemic; the Supreme Council last year suspended the law for a year.
The Supreme Council considers that now this support measure is also important so that the cost of medicines in Pridnestrovian pharmacies does not become significantly higher. The Moldovan authorities do not allow medicines produced in Belarus or Russia into Pridnestrovie, since they are not included in the register of medicines in Moldova.
The adopted changes after signing by the PMR President will come into force on January 1, 2024.
