Settle gaps and shortcomings

14.03.2018

Parliamentarians during the plenary session supported the legislative initiative of Galina Antyfeeva. A number of amendments and addendum are made to the Electoral Code and the Code of Administrative Offenses. As the author of the law-in-draft noted, the proposals are aimed at improving the provisions of the electoral legislation of the republic.

The author specified that the legislations do not presuppose innovations, but unify several formulations of the Electoral Code. In particular, in accordance with the norms of the recently adopted laws on citizenship and migration, the concept of "place of residence" is replaced by the "place of registration". It is proposed to change the procedure for collecting signatures in support of the candidate - the list of signatures collectors will be provided once; to introduce a mechanism for annulling the registration of a candidate, to change the start time for the broadcasting of campaign videos; order collection and publication of information about the candidate. In addition, the timing of repeated and additional elections is adjusted. Following the consideration of legislative initiatives, parliamentarians adopted it in the first reading.

Within the framework of the agenda, the deputies heard information on the activities of the Supreme Court and the Arbitration Court over the past year. Reports were made by the chairmen of the judiciary Vladimir Rymar and Alexander Kiyko. During discussion of the information presented by them, the parliamentarians asked the representatives of the judicial system the questions with which citizens are applying to them. In particular, it was about increasing the transparency of the work of courts, posting information on the activities of the judiciary.

In general, parliamentarians expressed their views on the need to improve legislation regulating the activities of courts, while noting that the main role should be given to the law.

In accordance with the Regulations of the Supreme Council, parliamentarians took note of the activities of the courts over the past year.
