The Male Holy Ascension New-Neamt monastery is better known as Kitskany, the name of the village, where it is situated. This spiritual son of Neamt Monastery appeared on the Orthodox map Moldova more than six centuries ago, thanks to the tragic events of the mid-19th century, related to the brutal persecution that underwent the Orthodox Church of Romania. Some monks left their native abode and founded the new monastery, the construction of which lasted nearly half a century. Its history - is a reflection of the region's history. It survived the war, destruction, persecution, the revival... Terrible period of oblivion was in the early 60-ty of the last century. The monastery was closed. At different times there in its holy walls was the storage of medicines Odessa Military District, tuberculosis hospital, a cinema, a club museum. In the early 90s it was returned to the Church. Another historical turn - revival began.
Today the monastery is not only prayerful for deeply religious people (the monks are still living under the charter, written 150 years ago), but also attracts leisure travelers with rich history and amazing architecture. There are four churches at the monastery: Holy Ascension Cathedral (summer), Assumption Church (winter), St. Nicholai Church (seminary) and Holy Cross (refectory). Each of them has its purpose, its own destiny. There is an oak alley with figures carved into the trunks of novitiates, the church museum, unique library, typography and icon-painting workshop.
Father Paissy, the current Father Superior of the monastery Kitskany. He spent exactly half of his life here. He took decision to link it with the church during his school years: Christian education impact and the example of older brothers. In 1990, a graduated of the Moscow Theological Seminary, a seminarian followed his brother, who was sent to Kitskany as rector of the newly revived monastery.
