16.01.2025

The ceremonial opening of the memorial plaque dedicated to the feat of the soldiers of the 95th Red Banner Rifle Division took place today in Tiraspol. The plaque was installed on the initiative of public organizations to perpetuate the feats of the division's heroes, which went through the battle path from defending the country's borders in the first days of the war to the capture of Berlin.

The opening ceremony brought together distinguished guests, including Oleg Vasilaty, a deputy of the Supreme Council Committee on Education, Public Associations and Mass Media. He noted the importance of preserving historical memory, emphasizing that this is the only way to instill in the younger generation respect for the exploits of their ancestors and an awareness of the value of peace. The parliamentarian drew attention to the urgency of the problem of falsification of history, which is important to stop by preserving the truth about the heroic past.

The honorary right to open the memorial plaque was granted to young people – Young Army and Suvorov cadets, which became a symbol of the transfer of memory of the heroes' exploits from the older generation to the younger generation.

The 95th Red Banner Rifle Division was formed in 1942, it was the 2nd formation of the 95th Moldavian Rifle Division, whose soldiers died during the defense of Sevastopol. The 95th Red Banner played a vital role during the Great Patriotic War. The bulk of its personnel were fighters from the Moldavian SSR, which is where its name came from. The division was distinguished by its high combat capability and discipline, and took part in key battles of the war: from the defense of Moldova and Odessa to the Berlin offensive of 1945.

The division's fighters showed courage in the Battle of Stalingrad, the Jassy-Kishinev operation and the Smolensk operation. 84 people from its ranks were awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union, and 18 thousand soldiers were awarded military orders and medals.

The names of some of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War who went to war from Pridnestrovian villages and cities were announced at the ceremonial event, including machine gunner Maria Motynga, who destroyed 300 enemy soldiers during the defense of Odessa. The memory of people like Fyodor Zharchinsky, Ivan Soltys and Grigory Sorokin will forever remain in the history of our Motherland.
