Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources: Results of 2024

03.04.2025

The Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic reported on the results of its work for 2024. The report was presented by the head of the ministry Igor Palamarchuk. Representatives of the legislative body of the republic took part in the meeting of the Board - Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Alexander Korshunov, head of the relevant parliamentary Committee on Agro-Industrial Complex, Industry, Transport, Construction and Natural Resources Oleg Leontyev, head of the Committee on Economic Policy, Budget and Finance Viktor Guzun and deputy Valery Babchinetsky.

Igor Palamarchuk noted at the beginning of his report that agriculture remains one of the most important sectors of the Pridnestrovian economy.

3.2 thousand hectares were not sown out of a total arable land area of 217.6 thousand hectares suitable for sowing agricultural crops in 2024. The main share is occupied by grain and leguminous crops, as well as industrial crops in the structure of sown areas.

The difficult foreign policy situation has set the task of strengthening food security for Pridnestrovie. The provision of domestically produced vegetables is especially important. In general, the domestic market of the republic is provided today with both seasonal vegetables and long-term storage vegetables, with the exception of potatoes. The sown area for potatoes increased by 32% last year, but the gross harvest increased by only 18%. The reason is unfavorable weather conditions.

Meat production increased in 2024. The total volume of sales of livestock and poultry for slaughter amounted to more than 12.5 thousand tons. This is almost 13% more than in 2023. The volume of cow's milk production increased by 3.5%. The figure reached 20 thousand tons last year. The key factor in the development of the dairy industry is state support. The state has been allocating subsidies to livestock breeders from budget funds for several years now, which partially compensate for the costs of purchasing breeding cattle. 1.6 million rubles were allocated for these purposes last year. The amount of subsidies for milk transferred to industrial production in 2024 exceeded 18.5 million rubles. More than 84.5 million rubles have been allocated from the republican budget for these purposes in total since 2018. The Minister of Agriculture noted that the use of modern technologies made it possible to increase the average annual milk yield per cow by 165%. The average annual milk yield was 3.2 tons of milk back in 2016. The figure reached 5.3 tons in 2024.

More than 4.5 million eggs were produced in 2024. There is a decrease of 6.2% compared to 2023, but production increased by 73.4%compared to 2022. Most of the production is provided by peasant (farming) households of Dubossary district.

The development of the melioration complex has become an important part of the technological process due to significant climate changes. 65 pumping stations were prepared to supply water for irrigation purposes by the beginning of the 2024 irrigation season. The area of irrigated lands of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic as a whole by the end of 2024 amounted to 35941 hectares.

9 million rubles were allocated from the budget for the purchase and repair of equipment last year within the framework of the state target program "Restoration and Development of the Melioration Complex of the PMR" for 2022 - 2026. Another 31 million rubles under the state program were allocated to cover the so-called inter-tariff difference. The tariff for water supply services for irrigation purposes in 2024, although increased for land users from 0.7 to 1.1 rubles / cubic meter of irrigation water, remained preferential thanks to state support.

The fight against ragweed continued last year. 1812 surveys and 127 unscheduled inspections were carried out on agricultural lands to ensure compliance with measures to combat this particularly dangerous weed, 120 protocols on administrative offenses were drawn up. The total amount of fines amounted to more than 81 thousand rubles.

One of the important areas of the Ministry's work is filling the "State Land Cadastre". Cadastral information on more than 7 thousand land plots has already been entered into the unified register. The speaker spoke about measures to control land use, veterinary control, preservation and improvement of soil fertility, reclamation of disturbed lands, conservation of aquatic bioresources, protection and monitoring of the environment.

The participants of the Board meeting were able to ask questions of interest to them after the report. Thus, the First President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Igor Smirnov was interested in the training of personnel in the field of agriculture. Igor Smirnov also drew attention to the need to create a seed fund of agricultural crops in the republic to strengthen food security.

The Government Chairman Alexander Rosenberg specifically focused on the area of rational use and reproduction of natural resources and recalled the need to intensify work on the state land cadastre. The work of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources based on the results of 2024 was recognized as satisfactory in general.
