The Board of the Prosecutor's Office on the results of work in 2024

27.02.2025

The Prosecutor's Office of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic summed up the results of work last year. Representatives of the legislative authority traditionally take part in the work of the Board – Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Alexander Korshunov, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council, head of the Committee on Legislation, Protection of Rights and Freedoms of Citizens Galina Antyufeeva and her deputy Grigory Dyachenko, head of the Committee on Economic Policy, Budget and Finance Viktor Guzun.

The Prosecutor of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Anatoly Guretsky gave a detailed report on the results of the work of the control and supervisory body. The head of the department spoke about working with citizens' appeals.

“467 appeals on issues of observance of human rights and freedoms were considered in 2024 – a third less than a year earlier, which, in the opinion of prosecutors, is not a consequence of a decrease in the number of offenses. This is evidenced by the number of violations of the rights and freedoms of citizens identified during scheduled prosecutorial inspections: 1059 – it makes 249 more than in 2023. Conclusion: citizens have become less likely to seek protection from the prosecutor's office; it is necessary to intensify informing the population about this possibility," the prosecutor of the republic said.

The Prosecutor of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Anatoly Guretsky noted an increase in the number of violations of the legislation on citizens' appeals as well as violations in the area of wages.

The speaker noted the lack of interdepartmental coordination in this area and the absence of effective legislative mechanisms to combat family dysfunction.

The prosecutor's office traditionally does a lot of work to improve legislation and takes an active part in developing measures to combat crime. the PMR Prosecutor submitted 22 legislative initiatives to the Supreme Council last year. Of these, 11 have already been adopted in the final reading as laws. Two legislations were rejected. The relevant parliamentary committees are currently working on the remaining 9 legislations.

The PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky recognized the work of the Prosecutor's Office of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic in 2024 as satisfactory. He recalled that Republic will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory and the 35th anniversary of the formation of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. An amnesty will be declared in this regard. The PMR President instructed to prepare relevant legislations.

Participants of the expanded Collegium of the Prosecutor's Office of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic during its work touched upon the sore subject of combating stray dogs. This problem has become one of the most pressing for urban and rural settlements of the republic in recent years. Stray animals are becoming increasingly visible on the streets with the onset of warm weather. They increasingly frighten passers-by, especially children. More and more people with bites are turning to hospitals throughout the republic every day. Heated discussions are raging in urban and rural chats, citizens are calling on the authorities of the republic to find a solution to the problem.

The problem of stray animals has been discussed more than once within the walls of the Supreme Council. Several relevant legislations were under consideration in parliament, but none of them found unanimous support from the deputy corps. All these bills could not gain a sufficient number of votes and were rejected. To date, the issue of legislative regulation of this problem remains open.

Three legislative initiatives are Currently under consideration in the relevant Committee of the Supreme Council, which, in the opinion of their authors, can help solve the problem of stray animals on the streets of the republic. All three draft laws will be considered at a meeting of the Committee on Regional Policy, Local Government and Housing and Public Utilities on Friday, February 28. It is expected that during the discussion, deputies and all interested parties will finally be able to find an optimal solution to the problem of stray animals.
