Tiraspol is hosting vote on amendments to the Constitution of Russia from June 29 to July 1. Two polling stations are open. The military personnel of the Russian Federation and their families voted on the basis of the military unit of the Operative Group of Russian Forces in Pridnestrovie. Citizens of Russia living in Pridnestrovie were able to cast their votes at the church site of the Church of St. Andrew the First-Called in Tiraspol. Voting takes place in compliance with security measures: temperature measurement, hand disinfection, presence of masks, maintaining social distance.
Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council Galina Antyufeyeva took part in the vote. In her opinion, it is very important for the Pridnestrovian Russians to feel that they are accomplices of the changes that are taking place in Russia.
Large number of people came to the polling station in the morning. Deputies of the Supreme Council praised the activity of Russian citizens living in our republic.
Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Galina Antyufeyeva expressed regret that this time only one polling station was created.
At the beginning of this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed a number of amendments to the Constitution, designed to make the basic law more in line with modern realities. There are about two hundred of the amendments that were adopted by the State Duma, approved by the Federation Council, supported by the legislative assemblies of all constituent entities of the Russian Federation. They are put to the vote in one package. In particular, it is proposed to consolidate at the constitutional level a number of social guarantees, expand the powers of parliament, introduce a number of restrictions for senior officials, establish the priority of the Russian Constitution over the requirements of international law. The amendments also provide for no more than two presidential terms, specifying that the current Head of state after the amendment enters into force will be able to run for the presidency again. The amendments will enter into force if more than half of the voting participants choose “Yes”.
