The Equator of the Parliamentary Activity

25.12.2018

The Supreme Council has been protecting the rights of citizens for 28 years. In the early 2000s, when the republic felt the consequences of the global crisis, the deputies took measures to stabilize the situation. At the equator of parliamentary activity, more than 700 laws were adopted, which were distinguished by a pronounced economic and social orientation. As at present, a part of deputies worked on a permanent (professional) basis, others - carried out deputy activities in parallel with labor. At the same time, it was not allowed to combine work in parliament and public service, as well as the simultaneous representation of various branches of the Government.

In the early 2000s, the main financial document of the republic underwent major changes: the requirements for the preparation and execution of the budget changed, the degree of its increased transparency. The tax system was reformed. The result of the work of the deputies of the third convocation was an increase in the income of the republican budget by three times, which made it possible to increase wages, pensions, benefits.

Between 2001 and 2005, the authority of the Supreme Council was further strengthened. 27 of 43 deputies were re-elected and continued parliamentary activities in the Supreme Council of the IV convocation.

The republic during this period felt the effects of the global financial crisis. In addition, in March 2006, Ukraine stopped the passage of Pridnestrovian cargo without customs clearance in Moldova. Pridnestrovie was in the ring of economic blockade.

Against the background of factors unfavorable to the republic, parliamentarians concentrated attention on the development of measures at the legislative level to maintain socio-economic stability. The fateful decision was the holding of a referendum on September 17, 2006.

In early October 2006, the State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted a resolution “On the Results of the Referendum in Pridnestrovie on September 17, 2006”. The document noted that the referendum was held in full compliance with international legal norms and legislation of the PMR.

After 2006, cooperation with the Russian Federation intensified. A course for harmonization with Russian legislation was chosen during this period.

The Supreme Council of the IV convocation considered more than 2000 legislations, passed about 1,700 laws and regulations. The documents were aimed at the development of the economy, such social areas as health care and education, to support small and medium-sized businesses, social protection of poor citizens and other categories of the population of the republic.
