The Parliament Speaker Alexander Korshunov answered in the “Special Conversation” program on First Pridnestrovian the hosts’ questions about the process of working on the 2024 budget law and whether to expect an increase in wages, pensions and benefits next year.
Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Alexander Korshunov noted that as for the budget law, the parliament is in the middle of the road at the moment. The law-in-draft is being prepared for consideration and adoption in the second non-final reading. It is planned that the document will be adopted and signed by the President of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic by the new year.
“We have this task every year. The budget traditionally places great emphasis on social issues. Approximately more than 70% of budget expenditures are aimed at fulfilling the state’s social obligations to our citizens. These include pensions, benefits, healthcare, social benefits, and much more. All obligations accepted for 2024 have sources of financing and will be paid in full and on time”, said Speaker Alexander Korshunov.
The question was raised in the course of the TV conversation regarding a possible increase in wages for public sector employees, pensions and benefits. Let us remind you that when considering the law-in-draft on the budget for 2024, deputies asked representatives of the Government of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic about this. However, no funds were planned to increase the state's social obligations. It was decided in the course of the discussion to return to this issue in January and find the possibility of increasing salaries, pensions and benefits on instructions from the President.
State employees' salaries, pensions and benefits – all this is formed from state revenues. First of all, these are taxes. Several special tax regimes for entrepreneurs have been in effect in Pridnestrovie since 2018. The presenters recalled, taking into account the adopted changes, their income, and therefore the tax base, became more transparent in 2023.
The Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic recalled, as for development programs, they remain. The Republic will continue to build, support agricultural producers, industrialists, youth, pay for treatment abroad for those Pridnestrovians who need it, and buy housing for graduates of orphanages and boarding homes.
