History of the holiday
World Teachers' Day is celebrated on Government calendars in over 100 countries. The UN officially established a holiday for the people of this important profession in 1994. October 5 was chosen because it was on this day in 1965 in Paris at a joint conference of UNESCO and the International Labor Organization that the resolution “On the Status of Teachers” was adopted.
The adopted document for the first time clearly defined the concept of "teacher". It included teachers teaching and educating children in primary and secondary schools.
Teachers' Day was celebrated on the first Sunday in October in Pridnestrovie as before in the USSR. Since 2016, according to the decree of the PMR President, October 5 has become a fixed date for celebrating Teacher's Day.
Teacher's Day is a holiday for both teachers and students. They begin to celebrate it the day before. In educational institutions, concerts, quizzes are usually held, wall newspapers are hung out. This year, due to quarantine, events are not being held. Teachers are congratulated today, presented flowers and thanked. Teacher's Day is a great opportunity to express respect to everyone who works in educational institutions, to appreciate their hard, but so necessary work.
Laws to support teachers
In June 2017, the Supreme Council adopted amendments to the law on remuneration of workers in the public sector. The changes were aimed at restoring social justice in the system of remuneration for teachers who work in organizations of additional and higher professional education and have a qualification category. Thus, another step was taken to preserve and consolidate specialists in the system of additional education, higher professional education, as well as for employees of state educational organizations with the special names "cadet school", "Suvorov military school", "cadet school", "Cossack cadet corps".
In 2018, by making amendments to the law "On Education", deputies provided opportunity for teachers to obtain legal status, defined their rights and freedoms. The document spelled out the possibility of establishing additional measures of state support in order to attract graduates of vocational education organizations to teaching. During the working hours of teaching staff, you can include educational (teaching), educational, individual work with students, scientific, creative and research work.
From January 1, 2020, the salaries of the teachers of the gymnasium and lyceum classes of secondary schools have been increased by 30-40 MW. Amendments to the law "On wages of public sector employees, pay for military personnel and persons equated to them in terms of payment of pay, pay for civil servants" were also aimed at restoring payments for qualification category to management and teaching staff of social security organizations.
Later, amendments were made to the same law, which determined the official salaries of teachers in the health care system and gave them the right to a bonus for the qualification category in March of this year.
In July 2020, the Supreme Council deputies voted in favor of changes to the legislation that allows teachers to work for 2 positions and receive a salary for this. Previously, this norm was not spelled out in the law, therefore, often working even at two rates (especially in rural areas), teachers could not receive a salary for this.
Amendments to the law "On Education" initiated by the Slobodzeya City Council and adopted by the parliament in July 2020 now allow teachers and educators to eat in canteens of educational institutions. Previously, this right was not provided.
The Chairman of the PMR Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov noted that teachers are people with big soul.
