How to write the names of the settlements of Pridnestrovie correctly in the three official languages? The parliamentarians considered at the plenary session in the second non-final reading amendments and additions to the Law of the PMR "On the administrative-territorial structure of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic".
The reference annex to the law in the state register "Administrative-territorial structure of the PMR" contains a list of settlements of the republic and their spelling only in Russian. The current legislation at the same time does not provide for a ban on the adoption and publication of annexes to a legislative act in two or three official languages simultaneously. In this regard, the authors of the legislative initiative organized work on the translation of toponyms directly – the names of administrative-territorial units in pursuance of Article 41 of the Law of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic "On the languages of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic" for official publication. The authors involved researchers from the State Educational Institution "Pridnestrovian State University named after Taras Shevchenko" as part of the work on the translation of toponyms.
Now, when translating into one of the official languages, inconsistencies arise in the names of the whole, parts of a phrase or letters with the practice of using or using the names of settlements, streets, squares, rivers and other geographical names of Pridnestrovie. In addition, some toponyms can be transmitted in the national language of the majority of the inhabitants of a particular area. Reproduction of national toponyms in another language is carried out in transcription.
Work on the law-in-raft will be continued in the third reading.
