The Council of Deputies and Workers of Bendery became the first representative body of local government in the territory of Pridnestrovie after the February Revolution of 1917. The first session of people's deputies in Bendery took place on the 8th of March, 1917. The inhabitants of the city were represented by delegates from the workers of the railway, shipping route, printing house, mills, as well as employees of the postal and telegraph department, commercial and industrial establishments. The history of the creation, formation and work of the deputies of the Bender City Council for 105 years was told in the film, which was shown from the stage of the Pavel Tkachenko House of Culture. It is located in the center of the city and today in its hall there were activists of districts, house committees and deputies of the current and past convocations of the Bendery City Council. Among the guests were deputies of the Supreme Council for the Bendery districts. Sergei Pisarenko, Anton Onufrienko and Alexander Korshunov got their first experience of working in representative bodies of power in the city council of Bendery.
The Head of the City Council of People's Deputies of Bendery Yury Kara told in his speech about how Bendery is changing and the participation in the positive transformations of the deputies of the City Council individually and the entire City Council as a whole. He emphasized that sports and cultural facilities are being repaired and built, roads are being repaired, recreation places for citizens are appearing in microdistricts, infrastructure is improving every year. An important role in this is played by feedback from the people of Bendery.
The interaction of the City Council with the state administration, with the Supreme Council and with the President, as the practice of the last 5 years of work shows, contributes to the transformation, revival and renewal of the city. There are 14 programs in Bendery, which have been adopted by the City Council. There are promising programs that allow the formation of targeted programs for the development of the city every year.
They not only talked about the merits of the Bendery deputy corps, but celebrated the best with state awards in a solemn atmosphere today. Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Alexander Korshunov presented the deputies and employees of the Office of the Bendery City Council with diplomas and letters of thanks from the President and the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. Special words of gratitude go to the activists and chairmen of the house committees, who make a huge contribution to the development of the city and each individual district.
Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Alexander Korshunov noted in his speech that the role of local self-government in the life of the city should not be underestimated. The speaker, who began his deputy activity in the city council of Bendery, emphasized that local governments are the main institution in the formation of a democratic state. Chairman of the Supreme Council noted that it was an honor for him to represent the interests of the people of Bendery in the City Council of two convocations. Working as a city council deputy is a huge experience in communication and management decision-making, which cannot be obtained in another job.
