The World Congress of Compatriots Living Abroad opened today, October 31, in Moscow. This year it will be the sixth in a row and will be held under the motto “Russia and Compatriots: New Challenges and New Horizons”. A number of participants exceeds 400 people. They represent 98 countries of the world.
Leaders of public organizations of compatriots, representatives of the Russian-speaking diaspora gathered in the Russian capital. They were joined by politicians, government officials, deputies, clergymen. Galina Antyufeeva, Vice-Speaker of the Pridnestrovian Parliament, Chairman of the NP “United Russian Community” of Tiraspol became a participant in the congress.
The Pridnestrovian delegation consists of the chairman of the Union of Russian Communities of Pridnestrovie, Viorika Kokhtareva, and the head of the Russian community of Dubossary, Zinaida Kibort.
The Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the congress participants. The President of the Russian Federation in his speech announced the approval of a new version of the Concept of the State Migration Policy of the Russian Federation for 2019-2025.
The Russian President noted that Russia will protect the rights and interests of compatriots and use all available international mechanisms for this. He separately noted the activities of the Russkiy Mir Foundation, which annually organizes large-scale assemblies in Russia. This year it will be held November 2-4 in Tver.
The forum participants will discuss the results of the work done over the past three years. An important place will be occupied by drawing up plans for the future, prospects for the development of cooperation. According to the organizers, the focus will continue the process of uniting the Russian diaspora. Another priority is the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of compatriots.
They will discuss issues of education in Russian in other countries, the promotion of Russian-language media, and the involvement of the young generation. The congress is held in the form of plenary sessions and five thematic sections: “Protecting the rights and legitimate interests of compatriots”, “Preserving Russian identity: supporting Russian-language education”, “The role of youth in consolidating the community”, “Media of the Russian abroad in the modern world”, “Economic cooperation Russia with foreign countries and compatriots". The outcome of the congress will be the adoption of a resolution.
