The procedure for announcing the verdict in criminal cases was optimized

05.07.2023

The Parliament adopted amendments to the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic in the second final reading. The legislative initiative aimed at optimizing the procedure for announcing the verdict in criminal cases was proposed by speaker Alexander Korshunov. Representatives of the judiciary community of Pridnestrovie have previously petitioned to change this procedure.

The procedure for announcing the verdict is regulated by Article 290 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. According to this article, when the verdict is announced, all those present in the courtroom, including judges, must listen to the verdict while standing. However, this approach is not always convenient, since there are cases when the inner part of the verdict is announced within a few hours, sometimes even 10-12 hours.

The court according to the adopted changes will announce only the introductory and operative parts of the verdict in criminal cases. This will significantly reduce the time spent on the announcement of the verdict and facilitate the process of court hearings for all its participants. There is no need to read out the entire verdict, since both the accusatory side of the process and the defense side are already familiar with the contents of this document and will be able to request a copy of the verdict.

As noted in the explanatory note to the law-in-draft, the optimization of the procedure for announcing the verdict is one of the measures aimed at improving the criminal procedure system and harmonizing it with the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation. This will make it possible to use the resources of the judicial system more efficiently and reduce the time for considering criminal cases. The amendments introduce changes that take into account modern requirements and ensure a more efficient functioning of the judicial system.
