The Guarantee of Peace and Stability in the Region

28.07.2017

A round table dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the peacekeeping operation in Pridnestrovie was held in Tiraspol. The participants are Pridnestrovian legislators, representatives of the executive branch of Government, experts. They were waiting for Russian guests, but they could not come to our republic. Last night, the State Duma deputy and several Russian artists were denied entry to the territory of Moldova. This is regarded in Pridnestrovie as a provocation by the Moldovan authorities. The plane on which the vice-premier of Russia Dmitry Rogozin had to fly to the capital of Moldova did not land in Chisinau.

Counselor of the Chairman of the Supreme Council Sergey Shirokov called the adoption on July 21 by the Parliament of the RM of the declaration on the so-called withdrawal of Russian troops the adoption of cynicism. Exactly 25 years ago, a historic agreement on the principles of the settlement of an armed conflict was signed, which defines the basis for peacekeeping operation on the Dniester. According to the co-chairman of the JCC from Pridnestrovie, deputy of the Supreme Council Oleg Belyakov, for a quarter of a century much work was done to maintain peace and security in the region. He emphasized, this is a great role for Russia, we must give credit to the Pridnestrovian defenders. Oleg Belyakov spoke about the historical and military-political prerequisites for the beginning of the peacekeeping mission on the Dniester in July 1992, the role of peacekeepers in ending the open confrontation of the participants in the military conflict.

The actions of Moldovan politicians are of particular concern to the residents of Bendery. The matter is about the ban on the entry to the Republic of Moldova of representatives of Russian government agencies, Russian artists, Hero of the Soviet Union Vladimir Gasoyan and other Russian citizens. Today, at the meeting of the presidium of the city council, the people's deputies adopted an appeal to the guarantor countries, the OSCE mission, the Ukrainian Embassy in Moldova, and the Government of Moldova. The document calls for an escalation of tension both in the city of Bendery and in Pridnestrovie. Residents of Bendery express the hope that the practice of such provocative steps will receive an appropriate assessment on the part of all participants in the process of the Moldo-Pridnestrovian settlement and the international community.

A pleasant surprise for all participants of the round table was the performance of Russian singer Olga Varvus. Our compatriot, who came from Russia as the ambassador of the Russkiy Mir Foundation, applauded the audience with two songs dedicated to Russia and the peacekeepers.
