Three quarters of a century have passed since the end of World War II. A significant role in the Victory over fascist Germany was played by the NKVD (People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs) troops. Articles on historical subjects publish facts that the People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs of the USSR at that time was solving different problems. These are military operations at the front, and rear protection, and the fight against desertion and provocative rumors. The military of the NKVD showed their heroism and courage. Deputy of the Supreme Council Andrei Safonov is sure of this. The parliament’s grandfather, Mikhail Ivanovich Safonov, was an officer of the People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs. He was 23 when the Great Patriotic War began.
There is an episode in the combat biography of grandfather of Andrei Safonov when the military was sent to catch deserters. During the war they, having left the ranks of the Red Army, robbed civilians.
Natural stamina of Soviet soldiers helped the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. So Mikhail Ivanovich Safonov thought. The veteran lived a long life - up to 90 years. He told his grandson about the war and that he was proud of the Victory.
Today, the memory of the Great Victory and the exploits of grandfathers and great-grandfathers need to be protected, says Andrei Safonov. This is a family archive and participation in memory actions for the parliamentarian.
